hello,
i really want to convert my old VHS tapes into DVD and so far i have had no luck.
first off i bought Pinnacle's Dazzle DVC 90 and that has YET to work.
it'll either freeze my machine or it'll not capture my video correctly(its really hard to explain)
i upgraded my video card and that didnt do anything. so im deciding on junking the thing and ask you guys what i should be using to grab the video off my vhs.
now first off understand i dont make alot of dough so please make sure the item is at least under a 100 bucks.
now i would really love to get a ATI video card but their 300 big ones and i cant afford that, so are there are any better ideas or should i just save up for a ATI card?
much thanks![]()

By chance, do you already own a DV camcorder?
If so, all you'll need is a firewire card - and you'll either already have one of those (or a port onboard the motherboard) or it'll cost you around US$15.
From there, hook the VCR up to the camcorder (it must be able to do "pass through"), hook the camcorder to the PC (via firewire) and capture to a DV AVI file using WinDV.
From there, encode the DV AVI to DVD compliant MPEG2 and author to DVD.
Of course, this is a really high-level description and there's gonna be learning and obstructions along the way... But it'll suffice as a rough guide.
Failing that, again by any chance, do you already own a DVD recorder? That's even easier, but you may need something to address the macrovision (if they're commercial VHS tapes).
Either way, good luck. There is some corner of a foreign field that is forever England: Telstra Stadium, Sydney, 22/11/2003.

If I was you I would be very concerned about my computer "freezing". More then likely you will have problems with any card you try.
I would suggest that you run Belarc Advisor and Hijaackthis. Post the results on TechSupportGuy web site. An expert will analyize the results.
You could have a virus, spyware or bad memory.
Check the number of running processes on the machine, between 22 and 28 is normal, more is cause for worry. -
no i dont own either item, if i did i wouldnt have bought the dazzle thing
i do however would like to have a dv camcorder, but i have yet to afford one
btw yes i do have firewire access on my machine.
btw the tapers im trying to convert are just things i recorded in the past, anything else i already got on dvd -
to answer the other post, the frezing doesnt happen alot so im not concerned as i check my machine like clockwork
i have 33 processes that run but i also have a web server running on my machine so that adds a couple more processes
plus on the support board, several people had the same isses as me(freezing, horrible video capturing) i would NEVER suggest buying this product!
i ran belarc for Pinnacle when they asked for a report, they were no help :@
the freezing only happens when i tri to connect the item on my back ports, my front ports doesnt seem to do that(go figure).
now heres a werid thing, another machine in our house can run this just fine, sadly that machine only has usb 1.1 and the damn dazzle dont accept it(meaning you can capture but the sound will not be there and the video looks horrible)
now reading another post they said computers with a VIA chipset could be at a problem and my machine does has one of those for the built-in video card, now i disabled the default video card when i upgraded, is that still a concern? -

Pls, I'll like to know how to connect my SONY TRV480 camcoder as pass thru to capture analogue video from VCR to my PC. Anytime I attempted this, I'm only able to capture the audio but nothing shows on the camera LCD. Ironically, it was clearly stated in the cam manual that it's quite possible but i've made several attempts & could not still work out. This my inabailty has made me to buy an ext. TV card (Cute TV USB) which could not even give me a great video quality production I desire.
I do connect the cam to VCR thru the 3-head RCA cable supplied & the Cam to PC thru firewire(aka 1394). The camcoder is fully recognised by the PC & my editing softwares.
If it has to do with settings, I have tried all these: On the camcoder
P-Menu>Menu>Standard set>a/v-dv out (set to ‘ON’)
P-Menu>Display>LCD Panel (set to ‘ON’)
P-Menu>Menu>USB-PLY/EDT> USB Stream or STD-USB or Pictbridge (I do select USB stream)
Or does it have to do with: i-link / IR setting in Prog Edit
Or does this have to do with TV colur sys or VCR setting: Auto/PAL/SECAM/N443? I have experimented all.
I still wonder what type of analog movie conversion SONY refers?
Pls, what else do I need to know on the connection/setting
PLS, I'LL APPRECIATE A CLUE TO SOLVING THIS PROBLEM.
