Recovering overwritten tape on DV camcorder

This could well win an award for dumb questions of our time but here goes.

Do dv TAPE camcorders have any kind of recover facility on them?

A friend has overwritten some important stuff on his panasonic handheld and seems to think it could be stored in memory somewhere.

I said forget it - its gone, but am happy to be proved wrong.

I can find out the exact make if that helps, but i know it takes the mini tapes.

Extremely unlikely but for a couple million$, a magenetics research lab may take on the project.
