  1. Hi, I have an old Samsung camcorder, which uses tape, and I would like to get the video off one of the tapes onto my PC. Could somebody please tell me how to do this? I am a complete beginner and have no idea at all what equipment or software I need for this. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

A DV-Camera? Use the firewire connection.

If you want more details then give us more details about the camera....

  3. Hi Baldrick, thanks for getting back to me. The camcorder is Samsung model VP-J52. What is a firewire and how does this connect to my PC? And once connected, how do I then transfer stuff through it to my PC? Please excuse my complete lack of knowledge on this!

I used to play an anologue camcorder into a domestic HDD/DVD Video recorder and then copy the files from the DVD recording into the computer. Then use converter software to make a file suitable for the editor. Tiresome but effective. (my reply to an earlier thread. you don't give your location. if you are in usa such recorders may not be common).
    ... cheers Mike
