I lost the compressor option and the mpeg2 option for FCP (I upgraded OS to Tiger and I upgrade QT to 7.03 (which I remember un-doing a year ago because it didn't have mpeg2), I think?
Anyway, now what do I do please...do I "buy/get a QT plugin?" or compressor or a 3rd party, or downgrade QT to my old version or what? FCP 4.5 btw.
Thanks
Mark
(PS - I'm searching all over apple.com and they keep referring to mpeg2 "players" not for making DVD's - again, though, it could be staring me in the face and I woudn't know it...all I know is I buy 2 upgrades (QT and Tiger) and now I can't burn a DVD)
is this what I should buy

BTW - what took away Compressor (Tiger or QT7 upgrade?)

Try re-installing Compressor and FCP from Disc.
I did this after upgrading to Tiger from 10.3.9,
and it put everything back, except for the Plug-in.
Luckily, I remembered that when QT 6.52 came out,
you had to upgrade the MPEG-2 component for that,
but it was FREE to PAID users of 6.03 or earlier...
I checked my email, and had the link for it.
I re-downloaded it, and it works like a charm
for QT 7.04."Everyone has to learn, so that they can one day teach."

I'm legal with FCP but have no discs.
Therefore, is my path of least resistance to buy the "plug-in" for QT 7?
Never bought a plugin before, cant find it on Apple.com (I dont speak good mac, just converted from years of PC.....
How do I get the mpeg2 through QT....(I'll buy it - although I'm sure you've heard it before that the only bad thing about macs is that an upgrade is often a downgrade....I had it with 6.x and lost it with 7.x,(right?).....
Or, is there a third party?
Or, should I go back to previous version of QT (which I did before, but can't remember how) - I had a mac guru who helped me then....he moved.
thanks,
Sorry if niave questions.

QT 6.52 doesn't play well with OSX Tiger. So
no, you can't go back, unless you go back
down from OS X 10.4 to Panther 10.3.9.
If your legit, then you should have no problem buying from this page:
Apple QT 6.04 or later MPEG-2 Component. this will be your
simplest route.
Also, take the time and get and learn about this FREE piece of
software called Carbon Copy Cloner. Had you had used this,
you could have pulled a copy of the component from a backup
of your system."Everyone has to learn, so that they can one day teach."

There is no longer an "Export to MPEG" option. It is all Compressor now.

umm...I believe were talking about in FCP 4.5 ( HD)
when you do Export to Quicktime,
you can then select to MPEG-2,
