I am using Nero 6 to to burn digital 8mm vidio to a DVD. The process seems to work well but when I try to play the DVD on my PC or another DVD player, the quality of the picture is very poor and the voice does not match the person speaking. It seems delayed. What can be wrong?

Is probably the problem... Never used it but I see a lot of posts with people that have problems with it....

Anyhow you need to suplly more detail about your problem. The steps you take when going from cam to DVD are important and if you do anything along the way that is wrong oit can cause problems.

So you have footage on your cam, we'll assume you are plugging it in via firewire (AKA i-link,1394), where do you go from there, specifically what format are you transferring the footage as from cam to HDD.

I am not sure what you mean by asking "what the source file format is" Could you explain it?

As far as the detail and the steps followed, I simply plug in the camera to the PC with the USB cable that was provided with the camera and start Nero and capture the video from the camera when it is playing back. I still have some captured vidio on my PC but I dont know what format it is in. Is there a better program out there than Nero??

USB is for transfering low quality versions of the video, not the higher quality that comes from using firewire/i-link connections. This is probably the main cause of the low quality of your video.

    I gotta stop assuming.....

As mentioned by Gunslinger use firewire. Transfer as DV-AVI.

USB 2.0 is more then adequate for HD (thou USB 1.0 is not). I use a FusionHDTV5 USB gold to capture HDTV and it works great. I found that none of the commercial software could handle HDTV. What is the file extension of the capture file?

It will be labeled 1394, I'link or firwire... most likely 1394. They can be found at any electronics store. Most likely you'll need a 4-pin to 6-pin. BTW you'll also need a firewire port on your computer. You can purchase one at most electronics stores if you don't have one.

mhnord : USB 2 has about the same bandwidth as firewire, however DV cameras that use USB for transfer do so to copy a reduced resolution, heavily compressed version of the film. DV over firewire is still the method to transfer full resolution, full framerate DV video to your PC.

This is totally useless information in the context of this thread and shows how little you know about the topic at hand.

The website is called VIDEO HELP DOT COME with HELP being the key word here.

Only at peak/burst speeds, not for sustained transfer. And for DV transfer, that's a real deal-breaker.

Not strictly true. It depends on what DV camera you're talking about. The Panasonic GS400 will transfer DV over USB2 quite happily.

Before running off and buying thing's you might not need , check what the camera support's first in capture format's ...

Some are complete rubbish with very low capture standard's ... check the supplied documentation that came with unit as to what is supported , then you should get answer's that will quickly get you on the right track .

    I use usb2 device's for dvd cpature input - 10mbps , and firewire for device control/input such as camera's .
