  1. I have a few WMA files and would like to convert them to MP3 so I can make a music CD.
Can you point me in the right direction of an easy and free piece of software...
    Thank you,

Dbpoweramp should work with a few plugins.

Try MediaCoder that should do what you want.

Sorry no WMA with Audacity. Just WAV, MP3, AIFF and Ogg Vorbis . But it is a versatile editor for those supported formats, and it's freeware. From their site:
Note: Audacity does not currently support WMA, AAC, or most other proprietary or restricted file formats.

If you want to create an audio CD, DON'T convert to MP3 first. You'll lose a lot of quality because you will still have to uncompress to WAV format to put on the CD.

Good point,WMP can burn an audio CD.If the files have DRM then you are out of luck.

ZenFrog76 I assume you have a medion computer, if you want a "normal" CD that will play on any CD player leave it as wma and use Nero to burn an audio CD.

You don't have to do anything, Nero will convert the file for you automatically.

If you wan't a mp3 CD then you will have to convert wma to mp3 with MediaCoder then use Nero to burn as a mp3 disc.

Or, since there are no guides for mediacoder yet and I haven't tried it, maybe the easiest way is to get a cd-rw burn your wma to audio cd then use exact audio copy to turn them in mp3 .

Then use Nero to burn your mp3 disc.

But then again - taking a detour over MP3 is not anything that should be done on your path to Audio CD. If anything, convert to WAV.

There's at least one or two free WMA plugins for Nero, too, such as this. (I think the third-party freeware plugins I saw in the past also handled WMA, along with other formats like RealAudio, but they seem to be a little harder to find, now.)

I've never tried using WMA files in creating an audio CD, though, so I can't comment on how well any of the plugins work in doing that.

Edit: Does Nero 7 come with the WMA conversion capability built-in? I've only used 6 and 5, and those require a plugin, I believe.

Yup, Nero 7 can burn an audio CD directly from WMA files. Just tried it.

WMA has already been stomped on once, to stomp on it again with MP3 makes absolutely no sense at all.

Always capture as uncompressed wave and use a decent program to burn the disc.

There are plenty of free older copies of musicmatch jukebox running around on the internet (7.5 works good) that let you organize, tag and burn your music. Nero is OK for disc to disc copy but Musicmatch is a much better tool for capturing, converting and burning music CDs.

If you need to edit Wave files, free Audacity is good or better is Goldwave or SoundForge.
