  1. Hello,
Im using a philips dvd recorder to capture through firewire from my dv cam.(the reason is that the recorder captures better quality video than my laptops firewire card..) The recorder creates a DVD and then i use tmpgenc to transfer the vobs as mpgs to the pc in order to use vegas video or any other editing software. The problem is that i have no sound at all in the preview in vegas video and no preview at all in pinnacle studio 9 . Im supsecting that it has to do with the fact that the mpgs files are encoded with AC3 2 channel audio from the philips recorder and vegas cannot recognize the audio. Im able to play the files normally with media player or bsplayer. I have downloaded a codec pack with ac3 support but the problem remains..What do u advise me to do? thanks

Personally, I would have transfered direct to the PC, then edited. Vegas is a great DV editor, and works best with that format.

Otherwise, demux the AC3 and convert to WAV and use this instead.

Did you set the correct option/preference within vegas to tell it where to pick the sound up from? If you are picking it up via onboard sound or sound card, have you gone into advanced settings for the card, and insured that the line in, is not muted, and that the input level is set high enough?

  4. The problem is that when i import the mpg file it doesnt recognise its audio at all(cause its ac3 audio)...This doesnt happen with other files , only with mpg files that include ac3 audio. Same thing with dvd architect, tmpgenc dvd author and other programs..I have been searching for hours to find something , a plugin maybe , that will make it work , its really weird i cant seem to find anything! I repeat that the file plays normal in all the media players... I dont want to capture through the laptops firewire , i keep it as a last option ..

I don't use Vegas, but a solution that's worked for me with my NLE is to demux the MPEGs, import the streams separately, and then link them together again. My NLE's MPEG2 decoder filter doesn't have built in support for AC3 and won't read AC3 audio in a muxed MPEG, but will happily read the elementary audio file.
