  1. Hi folks,

I've just tried my first backup with Simple DivX. I've never done DVD to AVI conversion before, but the program seemed pretty simple. The end product had acceptable video quality and the audio was in sync, but the aspect ratio came out wrong. The image is vertically stretched--on MST3K it was called "long-torso vision." Can anyone advise me on how to fix this? Thanks.

Possible that it was encoded with a non 1:1 PAR, but whatever you are using for playback is ignoring that info.

  3. Is there some way of telling whether it was encoded with a non-1:1 PAR? I don't even know what PAR stands for--it's not in the videohelp glossary. Something aspect ratio?

  4. Found out a small bit more: SimpleDIVX and DVD2AVI both interpret the VOB files as 4:3 when they're really 16:9. I'm using DVD Decrypter in IFO mode to decrypt. Info on the "Stream Processing" tab there confirms that the original is actually at 16:9, but DVD2AVI wants to process it at 16:9.
