Can any 1 help me with this please...

Recent bought a new Tv :

    Lg 600hz Plasma
    720p Hd Ready Picture

It has a Usb input with Divx Movie Playback .. So connected an external harddrive, with some Divx movies on it and it works great.. Only problem is some of the movies are playing in letterbox type aspect ratio. Thick black lines above and below the picture' Half the movies i have saved play full screen and half them play that letter box!! I tried resizeing with mpeg modiefer and when I play it on the pc its fulscreen' No problem..... But when I copy 2 the harddrive and play them on the tv there back to that letterbox buisness' Obviousley the tv rejecting that aspect or what not' I am totally new to all this? I've seen about resizeing and re encodeing searching the net but honestly dont no where to start ?? I dont care if i loose a bit of the picture quality.. Would just realy like all the files to be the same and fill the screen...

Any info would be much appreciated...

    Thanks

  2. Check your videos with MediaInfo. Many (most?) movies are wider than 16:9 so you should see letterbox bars above and below on a 16:9 display. If your TV has a zoom control and you don't mind missing 1/4 of the picture use it to get rid of the bars.

Just checked 1 random video that plays letterbox ratio' Is that what you mean below ? I can change the ratio on the tele i.e zoom no problem when watcing tv etc.. But on the divx playback on the tele it doesn not give you this option Is There a way to encode the file and resize it maybe loose a bit of the picture quality so that it will fill the screen? Any of the old films i have on divx say from the mid 90's etc lesser quality fill the screen! Its obviuosley the better quality newer stuff that theres an issue with ..

    Thanks

  4. You can use an editor like Virtualdub to crop the picture and reencode. But your butchering the movie. And with a source like that one you're going to get a blurrier picture with more resizing artifacts and more compression artifacts. Why bother? Just so you don't have to see black bars?
