  1. Hi

I've got few M2V clips. I've tried to convert them into XViD Format. The problem is that I'm unable to retain the original resolution. Here's a screenshot of one of the m2v source file

I've used TMpEG Express. It showed the source file resolution as 480x480 instead of 640x480. When I try to set the output to 640x480.. I'm getting a shabby output. But when I set output to 480x480, I'm getting flawless output but cropped to 480x480.

When I try to play the source file in Media Player Classic (Bundled with K-lite codec Pack that I use), it plays with 640x480, but when I import the same source video into any video converter/decoder software, all those softwares report the m2v file as 480x480
some of my videos are of 720x540 resolution and I face the same problem with them. they are all reported as 480x480 videos but they all play fine in media player classic

I've even tried virtualdub and others. My Question is, how can I convert the source to xvid retaining the resolution and quality and what's the reason for the source m2v being showed as a 480x480 in virtualdubmod and other software?

    Thanks

The source resolution is 480x480 but the display aspect ratio is 4:3 so it will be resized in the video player to 640x480. Just convert to a 4:3 resolution like 480x360 or lower 4:3 resolution...you could also convert yo 640x480 but it's not that good to upresize.

  3. The M2V is 480x480, from an SVCD probably. When resized it displays at 640x480. So, when converting to XviD, you want to resize to 640x480 (or 720x540, or 576x432, or 512x384), or some other 1.33:1 ratio. Although using AviSynth for the job is preferred, you can do it in VDubMod by opening the M2V and using the resize filter. I guess you can do the same thing in TMPGEnc Express. I don't know as I don't use it.

The problem is that I'm unable to retain the original resolution.

The original resolution is 480x480. You don't want to retain it. And if it's a movie, you probably want to IVTC it back to 23.976fps.

    I'm getting a shabby output.

"Shabby output" doesn't really tell us much. It could be a lack of bitrate, or something else. My suggestion is to let AutoGK do the job for you.

  4. Wow.. thanks for the fast reply

should I always convert ALL videos to 480x360 (even different resolutions apprear for different videos)??

and there won't be any reduction in quality right??

Also.. this is a screenshot of another video..

should I convert it into 720x540 for (4:3)??

EDIT :manono, I'll post the output snapshots in a min. thanks for your help

sorry if my last question is lame
