on my dvd player, which just so happens to be an apex ad-500a, whenever i play a VCD, any vcd, except boughten, it makes a lot of blocks. now the differnt between the blocks you guys see and mine, are huge. like the top half the screen blocks will be good, if im lucky, no blocks at all. but the bottom half, is like blocks, pure 100% blocks, and whats inside the blocks, has nothing to do with the movie. you see rainbows and shit that has nothing to do with movie, it sucks bad. how do i fix this????? im going crazy...honest to god, ill be in the ward if i dont get this working. plz help me or send me a new dvd player.

Well, here is a shitty answer, but an answer nonetheless. Upgrade to a 500w with ED04 firmware from Wal-Mart for $98 US. It plays any and all cd-r and cd-rw (not sure if that is the case with yours). No more blockiness with that version.

Forgive me if I'm just spewing out misinformation, but I believe that of the 500 series, only the 500W (Walt*Mart) version is the desirable one... this is one I own, and I have to say I notice blocks, but absolutely nothing like you describe (it's just what you'd see in dark areas of most any MPEG-1 low-res picture)...
I say go with the 500W instead... hopefully you can still take the 500a back from whence it came?...
