  1. Hello all! So, I got this message and I don't know how to "decompress"...with what program??? So, here is the message:

VirtualDub has detected and improper VBR audio encoding in the source AVI file and will rewrite the audio header with standard DBR values during processing for better compatibility. This may introduce up to 5922 ms of skew from the video stream. If this is unacceptable, decompress the *entire* audio stream to an uncompressed WAV file and recompress with a constant bitrate encoder. (bitrate: 120.3 +/- 17.3 kbps)

    Thanks in advance!

  3. OY! I just did a search (which I should have done BEFORE I posted this!!!!!!!) and I think I might have found the solution to this message. I will find out (as the first time I did burn this silly thing, the video was WAY fast and the audio was totally normal....) if this is totally in sync. If not, I guess I can move on to the next "solution". Thanks everyone! Keep up the good advices!

Load the AVI in Goldwave. Save WAV.
    Load AVI in VirtualDub.
Use "WAV Audio..." (under the Audio menu) and pick your wav from the step above.
    Then - who knows!

What do you have to start with, and what do you want in the end?
My crystal ball tells med you have a movie made up of several AVIs with VBR mp3 audio. You want to join these AVIs for further processing, right?
In that case, after the above, save out a new AVI, making sure you set both video and audio to Direct Stream. This will result in big AVI's (as the audio is uncompressed), but that's only temporary files anyway. Repeat for all source AVIs.
When all AVI segments are done, load the first back in, then add the rest one by one with "Append AVI segment". Finally, save out the complete AVI (still Direct Stream for both A+V), ready for further treatment.

I had the same problem and the followed this but unfortunately I have a problem with the .avi. The sound is perfect, as well as the subs but the video is kinda slow, as if it was getting stuck for a second or two. Do you know how to fix this please?

Btw this is the saved .avi. Not the original one, that one is perfect.

Why do you save out a new AVI? What is your end goal?
Did you set video to Direct Stream when you saved out your copy?

Basically I dled a Xvid movie and need the subtitles to be on the movie so I can play it on my standalone player. I've used VirtualDub for other movies and never had any problems. It's just that recently all the files I d/l makes this "VBR" info pop up when I load them in VirtualDub.

OK, I see - yes, that'd require reencoding.
But doesn't you player support external (.srt) subs?
