  1. Hi,

I have two cards that I can use for capturing analog video: the ATI AIW 9800 and the Pinnacle DV500 DVD.
I am not satisfied how both card capture bright red areas. The ATI card introduces some kind of noise throughout the red area (see the first illustration). The DV500 card introduces some kind of jagged pattern at the borders of the red area (see the second illustration).
Can these problems be solved? If not, what capture card should I use to avoid these problems?

    Thanks!

  2. Hi,

To better illustrate the problem, I have enlarged a part of the pictures in my previous post. The left part shows the ATI picture, the right part is the pinnacle picture.

Your levels are way too hot for video.

first picture luminance pegged at 108%, chroma 142%

second picture luminance pegged at 108%, chroma 146%

Better to fix this before capturing but here is a levels correction HSL+Levels filter.

  5. Do I understand correctly that the luminace and chroma of the images is too high for a signal that is coming from a VCR? The VCR does not allow adjusting these levels.
Are there other ways to reduce these levels?
