I have read some of the HV20 capture problems on here but non seem quite the same as mine. I have filmed a few bits and bobs all in 1080p (25 fps (UK) and tried to transfer that to premier pro 2 using firewire. But neither premier pro 2 or xp will recognise the hv20 when outputing in HDV mode only in DV mode. I can play the footage back on the camera screen using the capture playback tools on my monitor but i don't get an image! I have just downloaded HDVsplit but won't be able to run it until I get home tonight but I fear it might be something to do with either the camera or my firewire port - otherwise why doesn't premier pro2 pick it up? My computer isn't attached to the internet and i have just reinstalled Win XP SP2 but obviously I can't access any of the updates - so wonder if the firewire drivers have been updated by microsoft in the last couple of years?

Also I am new to Premier and it seems it will only capture at 24fps or 30fps but not 25fps - what should I do about that?

Also I have noticed that my footage is quite jumpy or blurry on playback when the camera is moving but crystal clear when only moving slightly. I have played it back on my dell 2407 screen (using composite) and our cheap lcd tv - not HD i don't think, and it makes you quite ill to look at it! I suspect they are struggling with the 25p who knows............. I haven't tried shooting 1080i and playing it back yet - should that yield better results on these 2 displays? I was hoping the Dell would show better results with the 25p but I might have been too optimistic. Any hints on how I can get a smoother picture with this camera?

    Thanks, Rob

Unless you're using a good tripod with a smooth fluid head, you should stick to 1080i. 50 fields will all ways be smoother than 25p fps.

As for your capturing problem, do you have both SD and HDV footage on that tape? If you do and it is paused on SD footage, it will be recognized as a DV camera. Make sure you have it paused in HDV footage when you plug in the firewire and turn it on. It should then be recognized as an HDV camera. HDVSplit is a good choice for capture s/w.

I'll bet your firewire and camera ports are OK. Premier, on the other hand...

Thanks guys, I am wanting to use the hv20 for matchmoving - unfortunately its been chucking it down here for the last few days so I haven't been able to get outside for some shooting but i've been practicing my technique inside with a poor mans steady cam and getting some decent results with 25p- slow and steady is the key! Its a shame they've got this problem and it seems odd that non of the rave reviews i read mentioned it but its still a good camera for the price.

I have given up on premier - it was just a demo anyway - might have been the problem but that doesn't matter because im now on Vegas which i havent had much time with but so far im very impressed. Im not sure it can capture 1080p though but im using hdvsplit anyway and then bringing the m2t file into vegas - works a treat! - one thing how do I get something compressed by cineform to work on another machine? my media player on my other pc says it hasn't got the right codec.

Less impressed with my dell 2407 monitor and its divx handling! the quality is terrible but my laptop shows it fine! but thats a different story!

    Cheers
