same issues as the 550

from http://www.hexus.net/content/item.php?item=4926
"DVB-T and ATSC
Secam"
OK but .... what happens to the MPeg2_TS stream and who cares about SECAM?
"hardware accelerated motion adaptive 3D comb filter"
Theater 550 was supposed to have that.
"multi-stage gain control
fine colour control
egde enhancement filtering"
Marketing hype unless they define what is different and why the 550 sucked at this.
"hardware cadence detection"
Theater 200 had that. Are they saying the 550 didn't?
and then:
"The chip also supports digital rights management for its use in the next generation of content-protected media platforms." ????
I guess it supports the Broadcast Flag that hasn't even passed Congress yet. Is this a "feature" or a reason never to buy this thing?

Final comment:
ATI seems to have some competent Chinese hardware talent but their software engineering and marketing suck to the max.
Do we just "blame Canada" for this ?
Southpark Rules !
PS: the expectations from ATI.

The minimum graphics card is now the Radeon 9600

Shs,
I think eddv remembers the large thread on this forum about the 550 where I made many posts about the 550 and its over hyped "features" and I spent hours, days and weeks trying to get it to do what it was supposed to do.
Video filters were all on 'auto' with little or no user control and all filters completely disabled in capture mode !
To be fair to ati the 550 produced an excellent tv preview picture on my pc screen but the capture quality was well below the marketing hype which really frustrated me and knocked my confidence in ati's products somewhat.I used to be indecisive but now I just cant make my mind up. -

Time for ATI to give some clear answers about Theater 550 before releasing 650.
Where is the documentation? -
I wont be touching it unless it gets rave reviews for capture and editing quality.

There's nothing quite like buying a product for specific features, only to learn that the vendor never was particularly interested in providing those features to you. This is not the first time I've seen ATI treat their customers like this; whatever goodwill (in my eyes) that came from their excellent Radeon 9700 series boards has now been spent.

plus the new MMC support sucks so bad, i think almost everyone's jumping off the boat now and onto using other pvr programs
