All of the DVD recorders I have used in the past week (Cyberhome 1600, Panasonic S20, and JVC DRM100) have the field order Top Field First. Everything works, so it is obviously correct, but it seems strange to me. Could someone shead some light on this?

I know next to nothing about different field orders but here are a couple of links that may help. I didn't find a great explanation to make it simple.

    http://www.greatdv.com/video/fields.htm

    or

    http://www.ulead.com/learning/video3/page1.htm

You can find a few more by doing a Google search for 'video field order'.

Not all DVD is TFF, Some are BFF also.
Best way to find out what field is used first is to use avisynth with the AssumeTFF().SeparateFields() or AssumeBFF().SeparateFields().
