  1. Hi

Just a quick question. I'm using Xvid4PSP to encode some Pal DVD TV series. Most of them are interlaced and I'm using the Yadif deinterlacer.

My question is that Xvid4PSP has a selection list for what type of inertalacing the source is like Hybrid Film, decimated, inerlaced etc, and also has a selection for field order. Does it matter what I choose in these settings to the finished result or does Yadif, or any deinterlacer for that matter just deinterlace irrelevant of the source interlacing method? And is it very reliable in detecting the method itself as it always seems to choose Hybrid Film and Variable for field order, when I though most pal DVD's are TFF.

Many thanks for your help. I'll check back latter today when I'm back from work.

    Cheers

Many PAL DVDs are interlaced TFF, but the actual video is progressive - i.e. each pair of fields is part of a progressive image - no movement between fields. I believe this is where Xvid4PSP's detection gets thrown off. Set it to TFF and you should be right. I get the same issue with PAL SD digital broadcast material as well.

  3. Thanks. That's what I figured to use TFF and have been for a while but just wanted another opinion.
