I finally replaced my dvr103 with a Pioneer DVR110D. Powered up, downloaded latest driver, successfully flashed drive. Nero does not see it. When I check properties in Windows it is listed as a standard cd drive. I have tried having Windows detect it but still the same. It shows up, just not as a recorder. I have it set as master device and my NEC DVD ROM as slave, same as before.

    Any thoughts?

    Thanks

Have you tried uninstalling the IDE channel it's on? Sometimes that will reset them. If no, then you may have somethng wrong in the registry.

Did you try using it before you flashed the drive?

What version of Nero are you running? I was quite happy with 5.5 with my old DVR104 but when I changed the drive for a 109 Nero no longer recognised it as it is too new. Had to get version 6 instead.

  4. Maybe your version of Nero is too old to recognize your new drive? Update Nero.

That doesn't explain why Windows isn't seeing it as a writer though

With no disc in the drive Windows always sees a DVD writer as a standard cd rom. It will see a DVD ROM as a DVD ROM but not a writer with no media.

  8. sdlehman,

I have the same problem as you are having.
I bought the Pioneer DVR-110D and updated the firmwire first to 1.37 and then to 1.39. At first everything is fine with my 4x DVD-Rs. Now I just tried some new media: 8x DVD-R. It works fine with the 8x DVD-R, too. The problem is it no longer recognizes my 4x DVD-R. I tried Sonic RecorderNow plus, Nero and wondows explorer. They just say no media.
