What's a solid routine for backing up full DVD9s? I've been backing up DVDs a long time but I'm just now getting around to buying DVD DLs as they're becoming more affordable.

In the past I've ripped with Decrypter in File mode, made my own folders, and then used PgcEdit for a few things (like killing the FBI warnings, forced previews, etc.). I then use PgcEdit to create an ISO, and then burn the ISO with Decrypter/ImgBurn.

But I understand that with DVD9s there's an issue with the layer break. I've read somewhere that it's desirable to create an MDS file and burn using that. But if I create my own ISO image, after having manipulated some of the files, well ... does that make a difference (as opposed to ripping the ISO directly from the disc?)?

Okay then ... I guess I can always learn by "doing." It's just that at $3 to $4 a pop, I don't want to screw up .

    I do the following:

dvd decrypter or dvdfabdecrypter in file mode

vobblanker to take out fbi warning

    dvdshrink with no compression
dvdsshrink select backup target in iso image file and burn with dvddecrypter.

this has worked just great with verbatim dual layer. with dvddecrypter you do not have to worry about layer break.
