  1. I was trying to convert an rmvb to an mpg, or even an avi, but I've had no luck. I did a search and it looks like there really aren't many positive results.

I've found this site, but don't have a clue what it says. I think its in spanish???

Is it at all possible if someone could check it out and if they know what it says...translate it please

    http://www.not-xor.com/rmvbtompg.html --to mpg
    or
    http://www.not-xor.com/rmvbtoavi.html --to avi

    any help would be appreciated

Seems pretty clear to me. They are suggesting remuxing from rmvb to mkv, then frameserving via AVISynth using directshowsource(). Seen plenty of posts here in English recommending basically the same thing. Usually without remuxing to mkv first.

If you look in the guide section, I have a detailed guide that explains how to use AVISYNTH and VdubMod to convert RMVB to AVI, but you'll also need RealAlternative installed. It really does explain all that, just look for it.

EDIT: and here's a direct link

And Celtic_Druid's right, RA's not really needed in full, just the splitter so you can play the thing (and AVISynth can read it)

You don't need Real Alternative installed. I don't have it installed and I can load rmvb files by AVISynth. You just need real's codecs and Gabest's dshow filter.

As long as you aren't running some crappy old dos based version of windows, you can find a current build here:
