My drive should be here today. Do I need to change the jumpers to cable select? I am installing in a Dual 2Ghz G5. Some people have said yes, some no.

To remove that faceplace, i can stick a pin in the hole in the drive before installing and the door should open, rightZ?

    Anything else I should know?

  2. Yes to both questions.

  3. I left the faceplate on when I installed the Pioneer 111 in my Quad. It works fine. Some of the older G5 had to have the faceplate removed because it would catch. It really depends on the system.

As for Cable Select, I set mine to master. Cable select has been problematic in the past.

From a Buick, any reason to change it to cable select over Master?

The drive arrived and they sent me a 111D instead of a 110D. From what I have been reading, the 111D works on the G5 and so I instaled it. So far, so good burning out of Toast 7.02. Have not tried iDVD 5.01 or DVDSP 4.

I set it to Cable select as I saw that post before I saw the one saying master. So far it seems to work.

Here is what the profiler says. I am running 10.4.6 on a G5 Dual 2Ghz.

    Firmware Revision: 1.06
    Interconnect: ATAPI
    Burn Support: Yes (Unsupported)
    Profile Path: None
    Cache: 2000 KB
    Reads DVD: Yes
    CD-Write: -R, -RW
    DVD-Write: -R, -RW, +R, +RW, +R DL
    Burn Underrun Protection CD: Yes
    Burn Underrun Protection DVD: Yes
    Write Strategies: CD-TAO, CD-SAO, CD-Raw, DVD-DAO
    Media: No

So does this mean I can't burn an audio CD in DAO mode? That's kind of important for live music and anything that needs to be seemless. Do I need to run Patchburn 4 to get that to show up? Plus, doesn't this drive also support DVD-R DL too? (I have never actually seen one of those discs in the store, just +R)

Patchburn is useful to get the drive working with iStuff
and changes the (unsupported) to (vendor supported).

There is a newer firmware version (1.19) available from
    forum.rpc1.org, and an RPC1 version from tdb.rpc1.org.
RPC1 means it isn't region locked. If you want to flash
your firmware, PM me for my notes on how to do it. The
notes are for a 110D on 10.3.9, but they'll work.

DVD+R is the only way to go for DLs, just as DVD-R is
for single-layers. Compatible with more players.

Oops-- dyslexia hit. The newest is 1.19, not 1.16, and
it is available at both rpc1 sites (in beta at tdb). DVRFlashX
    will work just fine.

  6. There's currently no Mac Flasher for the 111. So. unless you have access to a PC to update the firmware in, you'll have to live with 1.06 for a while.

Cable select vs Master is only relavent when you have more than one optical drive installed.

Patchburn will not be needed for the 111. All iApps will work as expected.

What about the CD DAO thing? I was a bit concerned that seemingly it won't burn audio CDs in DAO mode. I don't want them to burn in TAO. Does it just not list this in the profiler, or do I need to use patchburn 4 to get it to show up? I don't want any hiccups in my live music CDs.

    Any clues?

I know what it is, I was just concerned it wasn't supported on my Mac because it wasn't listed. Sorry I was not more specific

I know the Pioneer site says it supports it, but again, it's not listed in the profiler.

I was just going by what someone told me to be honest. So I shouldn't have said I know it says it/ Just assumed what i was told was correct. i can't see why it wouldn't be, but then you never know. I just want DAO for audio CDs. Don't care as far as data.

Who needs CD-DAO if you got CD-SAO? It's superior imho.

  14. I just checked with Toast 7, and it offers DAO for burning audio CDs with my 111D. So behaps its more a writing strategy and not a burner based function.

I don't believe Toast 7 or Jam 6 burn in SAO though. I don't know much about SAO, but was always led to believe that DAO was the way to go for audio.

I know when I burn in Jam it generally says DAO next to the progress bar. Have not tried it here. I like to think if it says DAO that it is burning in DAO, but I dunno. Have to do a test burn

Both will work, CS is just a more simple way to go. CS should be no problem on newer systems and is what Apple suggest to use.
