I just recently purchased the ADS Pyro A/V link dv capture device. I plug my vcr into it via the s-video and have it set to capture via the DV output to the computer.
The problem is, my computer is not recognizing the device. I can plug my dv camcorder and firewire hard drive in my firewire inputs on my pc and play just fine. But the ADS pyro a/v link is not being recognized at all. I'm running Windows XP pro with SP2.
Basically I want to transfer my vhs tapes to DV format, but i can't do that because the ADS pyro av link is not being recognized by plugging it in via Firewire.
If anyone can help, that would be great.

First question is... Are you SURE your firewire port is working? What if you just try to capture the Firewire port and see what it does? You do have the Premier Elements that came with it (well, most packages did have it)

Is your firewire port from your motherboard or is it a pci firewire card? Sometimes devices such as a capture device will not work off of a firewire port from the motherboard. I'd suggest you pick up a cheap pci firewire card and try that out. COMPUSA has one on sale at this time. You may also want to check the ADS website for some information. Sometimes there is a patch for certain operating systems. Lastly try connecting the ADS device then reboot the pc. Sometimes rebooting the pc xp will then recognize it.

I've tried going into device manager and uninstall the firewire ports and restart and tried to hook up the ADS pyro AV link and still wasn't recognized.
I do have the adobe premiere elements and it doesn't recognize the device as well as Sony Vegas 6 and Adobe premiere pro 1.5
I've tried switching firewire cables and switched different firewire ports and still nothing.
I think i might have to exchange it. -
I had that same problem originally..Tech support was correct for once..
I powered down the ADS for a few seconds (including unplugging the AC adapter for good measure)..
Everything worked after that...
Good luck!! -
There are instructions with the ADS products which are very specific about what to hook up, in which order, whether to install drivers first or after, and when to load what softwares. If you did not follow those instructions to the letter, you can have issues with drivers and software. Also, on the AV/Link, there is a button to switch from digital capture to analog capture. You need to make sure that it is set correctly. I use my AV/Link on either of my PC's without problems. But I followed all install information to the letter.

UPDATE!
Just recieved another one today and works like a charm. Just connected the card to the PC via firewire and windows recognized it right away. Now i'm happy.
