    Is it better to seperate the video and audio tracks before importing them into my authoring program or just leave leave it as one mpg file?

    Depends on the authoring program. Some prefer demuxed streams, some will tahe a programme (combined stream) then demux it in the background anyway, and some don't care what they get.

    Do what yours prefers.
