I tried to convert the 16:9 DVD VOB file(creaded by Sony DVD Camcoder) to mpeg2 file (no re-encoding), the problem is all the software I tried change the 16:9 AR to 4:3 in the mpeg2 file. When I open the mpeg2 files under ulead videostudio9 to edit, I can not get the right AR. Please advise how to solve this issue. Thanks

you set it to 16:9 when you export to dvd.

if you are going to join with other clips that are 4:3 you can add borders to get correct ar.

Thank you for your comments. There are must be a way to specify the correct AR in mpeg file so that the mpeg file can be played correctly on computer. The Sony boundled software can convert the miniDVD to 16:9 mpeg correctly. Unfortunately it can not do the convertion from the DVD folder on hard drive.

  4. You can change the AR flag to 16:9 with Restream - it re-saves your MPEG file without re-encoding.

I tried different solutions and found DVDpatcher is the best one. It does not re-stream the file. It just patches the header of the MPEG file from 4:3 to 16:9.
