  1. I am going crazy here.

I have captured a VHS tape with my leadtek Winfast TVTuner EXPERT and the a/v sync is out by at least a second or so.

    I captured at 720x480 MPEG2 settings, with a 5000 bitrate.

I can't seem to get TMPGEnc to properly align the two. I go to source range, and have tried going negative and positive audio gap correct, but I can't seem to get close. I tried using values of 1000 to start, then depending on how far out it still was, I would adjust the number accordingly. The problem is, unless the number change is DRASTIC, I don't seem to be getting any change at all.

I am using and AMD athlonxp3200 with a 160G SATA drive for capturing/converting.

I am using the on board sound to capture audio (I should probably upgrade this) I haven't always had the a/v sync issues using this hardware in the past, and on the few occasions that I did, I was able to get the audio gap correct or at least close enough to be acceptable.

Might find it easier in a non-linear editor like Vegas or Prem or wax (free).

  3. Looks like it was the software causing the problem. I just updated the software (via vendors website) for my Leadtek TVTUNER expert and it looks like it is dropping frames like crazy! Appears OK for cable TV input, but even just viewing VHS it seems to be dropping frames. I captured with another program (Ulead VideoStudio) and everything seems to be in sync.

Didn't think to check this out until a friend from work sugested it. It seems odd to me, however, since it didn't do this before. I thought software upgrades were supposed to get rid of bugs, not create them. Oh well.
