Using Ripti4me, I got the following error message after running DVD Shrink. I have backed up DVD's before, though once in a while it doesn't work, but it seems to be having more often. I am a newbie here, but I figure this is the appropriate forum.

Thanks in advance for any help.

i'd get rid of nero and use imgburn. you might also want to try some taiyo yuden or verbatim dvdr blanks.

another thing might be to use dvdfab and not ripit4me which hasn't been updated in quite a while.

    rip101,

The error had nothing to do with RipIt4Me or DvdShrink. It occurred during burning with nero. The drive reported atapi error 040901 (a tracking servo failure), which may mean the drive is dying/dead. To make sure it's the drive, try these changes:

    1) The version of nero you're using is from before your drive was first released, so nero isn't recognizing the drive correctly. In that circumstance, nero is less stable, and strange problems can pop up. You should try using ImgBurn (as aedipuss suggested) for the burning. ImgBurn is free and an excellent program, so you have nothing to lose.

    2) Your burner may be having problems with the Ritek R03 disks you're using. Try even just a few Verbatim disks, just to rule out media causing the problem. With the drive you have, avoid getting more than 8x rated disks, or the test(s) may not be valid.

    3) Your burner's firmware had at least one update, but it seems it would take more time than I have right now to locate it. The drive is a HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GSA-4082B and it is currently using firmware A207. If neither of the two changes above worked, upgrading the firmware is the last thing to try, so it might be worth the search.

If you are still getting the same error after trying the above, the drive is dying/dead, and should be replaced.

I see this was your first post here, so welcome to VideoHelp.
