  1. hi there..
could any body tell me about a software that can convert any audio file to 5.1 but I want it to give a true surround and not just to copy the file to other channels (I mean I want the guitar voice to get out from the rears only...and the singer from the center for example)..
I've tried the maven3d pro but it didn't give a true surround (it just copied the same audio into the other channels)
so can any body help me please...

    AND THANKS IN ADVANCE....

    CAESAR...

Short answer: There is no such thing.

Long answer: Hollywood and Music studios do surround by having MANY multiple source tracks, which they --to use your term--"Copy" or Mixdown to the 5.1 tracks, as well as mixing down to 2 tracks.
When they want to take something that was originally 1 or 2 tracks and make a 5.1 version, they have to painstakingling try at manually separating the various voices/parts into intermediate versions of those aforementioned multiple tracks. This is NOT a surefire possibility, even for those with $$$$$$. Otherwise, it's the application of compression/EQ and the addition of 5.1 ambience that might give the impression of 5.1.
In that way, any good multitrack audio editor can be used, preferrably one that fully supports mixing in 5.1 surround. Maven3D does do this. So does ProTools and Vegas, and some others. But, once again, GOOD LUCK!

You have the tools, just not the materials or the know how. 5.1 is relatively easy if you are recording your own material, but very difficult to do from someone elses stereo material.

Not gonna happen. You can't create spatial separation data out of nothing (well, you probably can with the right tools, but it's not worth the trouble. So nobody bothered to develope the right tools.)

There's a few guides and threads on this at doom9, including a quick how-to in Vegas & a few others... True 5.1, or 7.1 etc it aint, but it does put the rear speakers to use , and some get a sense of accomplishment from creating 5.1 ac3 -- nothing wrong with that

I'm sure it's a fun project, but does it really produce better results than the built-in Pro-Logic II decoding? If it doesn't then I just don't see why you wouldn't rather use the feature you paid for than spend hours trying to get to that point. If it does then i'll shut up back out slowly

    My personal opinion ....

    WMV I'll do 5.1 etc...
On DVD I downmix to or use stereo every time... :P Almost everyone in the family uses the bundled players on their PC & come screaming when they have 5.1 issues. Doing stereo is easier then throwing things!
