    I'm having some problems deleting a small scene of an AVI using Vdubmod. I first scroll to the first frame I don't want and select the MarkIn. Then I go to the last frame and select the MarkOut. Then I go to Edit and Delete.

    Then I set it to Direct Stream Copy and save it as a new AVI file. But that AVI file still has the unwanted frames in it. Instead it deleted the frames AFTER the MarkOut. This has never happened before. Is there another program that can do this job?

    The video codec is DivX 5.0.

    I daresay you're doing something wrong. It works fine for me, every time.
    If in doubt, Google it.

    You should be able to view the video at this point (before saving) and make sure you have removed the correct parts. Since you are using direct stream copy you need to make your cuts at key frames. Use the gold key frame buttons to locate them.

    Yes, I did try playing it. It freezes for a while when it comes to the area that was deleted and then starts playing the scene after the deleted area.

    I have two different places that were cut in the same AVI. The other part that was cut worked fine. As for using key frames, it doesn't go to the exact frame that I want to cut so I don't use it.

  5. Do you realize you can only cut on key frames when using Direct Stream Copy mode?

    If you don't want to cut on the key frames you need to use "full processing." Be sure to select a compression type or it will be very big.

    Thanks, it worked. Doing full compression takes such a long time.

    You can always save the video in parts then join them together later -- thereby saving time and preserving as much quality as possible. Save the parts that don't need to be cut between keyframes with direct stream copy. Then save the parts that need to be cut on non-keyframes with full processing. Be sure to use the same codec and similar settings. Save them numbered and in sequence. Then use File -> Open to open the first chunk, File -> Append to append the rest. Finally set Direct Stream Copy mode and save the whole thing out.

    Code:
    K--------K--------K--------K--------K---- source
    K--------K----XXXXXXXXXX---K--------K---- section to cut
    K--------K----                            direct stream copy (FILE000.AVI)
                            ---               reencode (FILE001.AVI)
                               K--------K---- Direct Stream copy (FILE002.AVI)

    K = keyframe
    - = non-keyframe
    X = frame to cut
    Note that any section you keep must start with a keyframe but it can end anywhere.

    If you only have a few cuts to make this is feasible. If you have lots of cuts it's too much trouble.
