DVD Lab Pro Problem

Hi, i have some experience authoring dvds. Just simple dvds, (no selectable audio or subtitles). I used to work with Ulead DVD WorkShop, and i found it very very simple to use and fullfilled my needs.

Now im trying to make more professional dvd's, with selectable Audio and Subs, dont ask me why i could not do that with Ulead WorkShop (as you probably did), because i dont know.. i just could not, the program crashed everytime.

Anyways, im using DVDLab Pro now, and it seems im starting to understand how it works, BUT im having serious problems with the result. My DVD will not play normally once you access the movie, this will jump from 5 seconds to another 5 seconds. Im not sure what the problem could be.

1. I convert from AVI to m2v with Tmpgenc Plus
2. Separate wav from avi with Virtual Dub
3. Used Besweet to convert from wav to ac3
4. Import all in DVDLab Pro.

I have the feeling that the main problem is that im using m2v and ac3 separately, a week ago i made another project, where i imported mpegs to DVD Lab Pro, the program demultiplexed the file (Into m2v and mp2) and used them normally, and the dvd worked just fine. Or maybe i cant use AC3, i just dont know.

Your method seems sound - could it be that the combined bitrate of A+V exceeds max DVD bitrate, or that your player doesn't support full bitrate?

Most DVD authoring prog require separate audio & video tracks, so wouldn't think that would be a problem. If you can play commercial (retail) DVDs, then that would eliminate any prob. playing ac3. If you can use PowerDVD (or other player) to play ac3 that you created on your PC, that would tend to eliminate your method of encoding as a problem. You might also try to use muxman to see if you can create a playable DVD -- that would narrow it down to your methods in DVD Lab Pro.

I just noticed that i cant play AC3 files, i cant hear them... I tried to use Windows Medial Player.. Could this might be the problem? But... hmm i CAN play AVI with AC3 sounds .... so confuseeeed!

Well I can't tell you how to check your dvd player's bitrate support, but I can tell you that I authored a movie with 224kbps AC3 and a video BR of 8000 and I don't have any problems when the movie is playing. And I'm playing the movie on a very simple dvdplayer (cheap TV-DVD player combo).

I tested the same DVD on power dvd and same problem.. In both players, Regular Home Player and DVD ROM i do can play retail DVDs, so i dont think i have a problem playing AC3. I believe that i messed with the WAV to AC3 convertion.

Right now im converting WAV to AC3 using the feature that DVD Lab Pro offers. Lets see what happends.

UPDATE: I made a single movie /single audio dvd and tested with power dvd, no problems at all!.

I believe maybe its the authoring it self, maybe im not making the Audio/Subtitile Menu correctly, could this be the problem?

I've never used Besweet but I've heard it can be buggy. Personally, I use ffmpeggui to convert audio and have never had any problems.

Also use Gspot to see your video or audio biterates.

I doubt it has to do anything with the subs.

Have you tried reauthoring using the new wav dvdlab made for you? Does it work now?

I've heard bad things about BeSweet. But some people have no problem with it.
Why not try it using the .WAV file to see if it works that way? Do you have room on the DVD for .WAV files?

UPDATE 2:

Ok, i made a 1 movie / 2 Audio /1 subtitle DVD, with no menu at all, just a fisrt screen menu that Starts the episode. I burned and play it on my dvd and everything went fine.

I have not made Audio and Subtitle menu yet, thats probably what im doing wrong. Or Maybe it is the Beesweet convertion (WAV TO AC3). I just imported my wav and let DVD Lab to transcode it to AC3, that might be the problem. So what im doing now is to a dvd with all the menu screens with the audios converted by DVD lab pro. That will hopefully work.

I will let you know guys.

It shouldn't matter that you don't have seperate menus done for your audio & subs. I'd tend to lean more to the ac3 encoder in DVD-Lab and it's ability to actually handle wavs. I've done several DVD's using the original wav as the audio source and half the time there's a problem with the end result. Convert the wav to ac3 (using AC3Enc) and all is well.
