Weird vertical lines on t.v screen - ellion dvr-530s

i have recently purchased an ellion dvr-530s (PAL) Dual dvd recorder. everything is great, except for no matter what dvd i play on it there are two transparent vertical lines running down my tv screen (they are static). although they are not always noticable during the film, when there is a scene at night for example they are more noticable and rather distracting. i have tried the dvd payer on 3 different tvs and tried two different scart leads but the lines remain. Any ideas on what these lines are and why they are there/ how to fix the problem? (I live in the UK).

If they show on commercial disks, and appear in recordings, take it back a get a new one.
