Linksys router WRT54G v5 *** WARNING ***

This is old news, but since I have not seen it in here so we go.

WRT54G v5 WARNING

NO 3rd Party Firmware exists for this model. the problem is the amount of RAM and the OS is VxWorks and not Linux.

if you want to use 3rd Party Firmwares, DO NOT BUY A WRT54G v5

To find out which WRT54G you are buying look at the Serial number on the box or the Unit itself.

There are serveral versions of the WRT54G, different powersupplies, chipsets, features, though all based on similar firmware.

To find out which model you have please go by the Serial Number of your WRT54G.

This is the only true way of finding out what one you have.

Thanks for the warning although I wish I saw this 2 weeks ago. I was installing one of these for a friend and after much headaches we returned it for a netgear router.

If you got a WRT54G v5.0 upgrade to the latest Linksys firmware as this will solve some of the problems.

Firmware 1.00.4
- Resolves issues with slow downstream speeds
- Resolves issues with certain web sites not loading or loading slowly
- Resolves issues with obtaining an IP address from Windows 2000 Server
- Resolves issues with certain Internet video streaming
- Resolves issues with playing PSP games online
