I am using Ulead Video Studio to edit my MPG's. Should I be setting my Frame size to 352x240, 352x480, 704x480 or 720x480. I want to ultimately author these MPG's into a DVD to play on a normal DVD player. Any info would be great!

    Hi bowmah,

All the resolutions you list are valid for NTSC.

However, it all depends on the resolution of the MPG's you're working with. Use GSpot (v2.52 beta) to get the resolution - once known, use the same. If they're different, go with the smallest one.

You can right click on the source clip in UVS to get the properties. Match everthing for your final output (except the audio, chane to Dolby Digital if you have the plugin). This will do two things, maintain the quality of the video that you have not edtited since UVS will only reencode the parts where you have edited like transitions and second it will speed up the encoding process condsiderably.

As a general rule, if your source files isn't in one of the formats you mention to start with, best is to resize down to the closest of those. Resizing up is never a good idea.
Also, the lower the resolution, the lower the bitrate can be used, ultimately enabling you to put more material on each disc.

Awesome stuff! I just right clicked on the properties and it shows that my dumped files are 720x480. I will be sure to output to this size as well.

    Thanks everyone!
