  1. Tried using dvd decryptor and it gets about 20% and errors pop up like crazy. Using Iso read to read the disk. I left all the settings as defult. Trying to back it up to a dvd+r dl, but it doesnt even make it all the way through the reading of the original disk.

Use DVDFab Decrypter. It's probably Sony ARccOS encrypted. DVDDecrypter will do the very thing you describe when encountering it.

Yes, thats what I use since development stopped on DVD Decrypter

But you need to change a couple of settings, these were suggested by the creators of AnyDVD from another forum

Goto the settings in DVD Decrypter, and choose the I/O tab, change the interface to 'ElbyCDIO - Elaborate Bytes'

Next go to the General tab, and deselect 'Check For Structure Protection'

Thats it, basically what these two options do is disable the internal DVD protection removal, and pass the DVD data through AnyDVD

So, now you can use DVD Decrypter to do the ripping while AnyDVD does the work of removing any protection

All you need do then is simply update AnyDVD when new versions come out to keep ahead of the protections

AnyDVD appears to be updated a couple of days after new protection is released, so you can be sure of keeping things running smoothly

    any suggestion of settings??

I can't get it with AnyDVD

Btw, I want to backup to +R DL, so I was trying the suggestion of ripping using DVDDecrypter in ISO mode... But in File Mode it doesn't work either.
(oh, this was using the sugestion by steptoe about changing to 'ElbyCDIO - Elaborate Bytes' and other settings)

Had the same problem as with Lords Of Dogtown,
    https://www.videohelp.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=280469&highlight=

All you have to do is run it through VobBlanker after ripping and DVD Shrink will open it no problem.

I sent all the IFO's to fengtao at dvdidle about a half hour ago so DVDFab Decrypter should be updated pretty fast.

DVD Decrypter & DVDFab Decrypter ripped it to my HDD fine, it was just when trying to open it in DVD Shrink that it choked.

Thanks for that tip. I'd tried everything else suggested in this thread and it wasn't working.

I used DVDdecrypter to rip it and then old version of DVD2One to do it. I had no problems whatsoever, whole process took about 15 minutes. I did join mode, movie plus 23 minute extra, if it makes any difference.

Ok, now I'm totally confused... DVD Decrypter is working... I don't have ANYDVD running...

Hmm... Currently DVD Decrypter is ripping it to ISO... and got past the VTS_08_1.VOB file now saying "inserting Dummy Sectors.." Before it was giving READ errors on this file in either File Mode, or ISO mode...

Since I want to back this up to +R DL disc... I assume this is ok to just burn this ISO to the DL using DVD Decryptor and it should work?

Or is there something else I'll have to do first, before I burn?

In this post on the AnyDvd support forum, Slysoft (maker of AnyDvd) says:
    My conclusion:
1.) Madagascar R1 (US) is protected with Macrovision "RipGuard". Finally we see a disc with this new protection!

And just above it, it states,

3.) As "Madagascar" is a Universal release, and because Universal and Macrovision are - according to their press releases - "good friends", I believe that this is the very first confirmed DVD which contains.... (drumroll): MacroVision's "RipGuard"!!! (this is just a guess, of course)
Which is funny because as i stated in another thread, arccos is sony's little baby but alot of people seem to just jump to the conclusion, if i can't rip it or open it in shrink it must me arccos
(also refer to my "joke" thread )

Regardless of what it is, they did not do a very good job as i had it backed up within a few minutes using only DVD Decrypter, VobBlanker & DVD Shrink 8)

You don't need to blank any (I didn't). Just run vobblanker and then you should be able to open the output in DVDShrink. I was able to. The problem vob will show up in DVDShrink as unreferenced material (on big deal).

In case some have not noticed, fengtao has updated DVDFab Decrypter to 2.9.5.8 and i just tested it on Madagascar, opened in DVD Shrink and it works great 8)

  26. Here's what I did to back-up my original, before I knew DVDFAB Decrypter was updated to a new version.

I started with DVD Shrink, wouldn't open. Tried DVD Decrypter, failed! Went to DVDFAB Decrypter (old version). Copied 100%. Opened with DVD Shrink, error in VOB 8 What??? What now? Try AnyDVD? No, it's not freeware and I already tried the free trial. Last ditch effort, opened Nero Recode and recoded main movie to HDD. Worked :P Went back to DVD Shrink and used Re-Author and selected main movie from Nero and then selected the extras (Penguins in a Christmas Caper) from DVDFAB Decrypter. Now I have a copy that the kids can watch without me worrying about the disc getting scratched!!!

  27. Thanks Noahtuck! Ripping w/ Dvd Decrypter, running to through VOb Blanker, and reauthoring w/ DVD Shrink was simple and worked great!

Hmm.. Thought I was at defaults.. but now that DVD Decrypter is working, I just noticed I have the I/O tab set to ASPI - ASPI.DLL, not SPTI-Microsoft...

It was set as SPTI-Microsoft when it getting stuck with errors on the VTS_08_1.VOB fiel, b4 I tried installing AnyDVD... I must have picked ASPI-ASPI.DLL by "accident" when changing back from ELBY CDIO.

Oh well, I got a good copy on DL, everything works, movie, special features, etc...

Sometimes I use TDA to backup main movie w/some extras on DVDs like this. No problem, until now ...

    (1) Ripped with DVDDecryter w/AnyDVD
    (2) Open DVD with TDA ... selected main movie w/ac3 5.1 a three or four extras with w/ac3 2-channel audio
    (3) Authored with customized menus ...
    (4) Burned ... everthing seemed good ...

Played extras with no problems. Played main movie and no sound. Went back to TDA ... check it out ... will load video & shows all the sound tracks but when selected (any of the tracks) no sound is loaded. So ...

    (5) Ran the Rip through Vobblanker & open with DVDShrink
    (6) Reauthor w/main movie only & ac3 5.1 ... audio present
    (7) Open that with TDA ... showed audio but when selected no audio

I'm using TDA 1.5.34.89 ... first time this has ever happen to me. I did get a backup with shrink but I'd perfer my reauthor version with customized menus. Anyway ...

    Anyone else experience this?

    Any suggestions?

I think a found a solution ... I ripped the audio stream I wanted (6-channel ac3) with DVD Decrypter using IFO mode.

    (1) I selected the title set of the main movie
    (2) Stream Processing (checked enable stream processing)
    (3) Demux
    (4) Rip
    (5) Select the ripped audio stream in TDA under edit / clip (audio input was blank / video input was correct)

Audio and Video appears in Sync ... But this seems to have worked ...

It a mystery why I had to rip it out ... usually TDA picks up the stream I want with no problems (this is the first time).
