WHICH WOULD YOU PICK OR USE AS AN EDITING monitor,sony or viewsonic? Which model do you use?

I prefer using a calibrated TV monitor via IEEE-1394 and the ADVC-100 transcoder* (or a DV camcorder). Black level is most important to get right.

The ADVC-300 gets you Y, Pb, Pr out.

What software are you using to edit?
Are you looking for a computer LCD, a HDTV, a TV monitor, a home TV?

Viewsonic is mostly in the computer monitor business. A computer monitor doesn't make the best "video editing" monitor because what you see is very different from the way it will be displayed on a TV.

Differences include:
black level, gamma, RGB vs. YUV, interlace vs. progressive, colorimitry, refresh rate, etc.

So if i was working with a Premiere Pro timeline, and output to a monitor via ADS Pyro A/V link, would this be sufficient for, say a hobbyist who wants to do wedding videos, or low-medium budget documentarys?

Any suggested links for somebody like me, looking to get into wedding post production?? I've only lately realized the importance of a monitor, and am playing catch up with their true value.

Yes the proper way to monitor the Premiere DV timeline is with a quality TV monitor (or a TV with auto correction features turned off) connected to the S-Video output of your ADS Pyro A/V link. See the Premiere in structions for setting up monitoring over IEEE-1394.

The monitor should be set to a color bar calibrated to DV levels (0 IRE for black, 100 IRE for white).
