I'm making a corporate video using Sony Vegas Pro to use at a conference. It will play on a widescreen computer monitor from a laptop. What template should I use for the project? Progressive NTSC DV 24p or 29.970? Or HD/HDV? So far I have always rendered video for DVD authoring, I'm not familiar with all the other templates.

It depends on what format your source files are, what kind of project you are doing, how it's intended to be viewed (through a software media player on your laptop ?)
Normally you would use the same settings as the source files -
My video assets are a broad variety of medium and low resolution clips as well as medium to high resolution still photos. Nothing is HD. The video will be played at a booth on a 46 inch flat screen TV hooked to a laptop. We'll probably use the VideoLAN software to loop the clip.
