  1. Is there anything that I could coat my Ridata dvd's with to make them more scratch resistant?

Thanks for any suggestions or thoughts.

  2. I don't know about coating them but I do know that a couple of manufacturers make scratch resistant dvds. I saw some Imation at Walmart for about a buck-fifty each. I hear Maxwell makes some too.

There's also D-skin covers that fit and form onto the data side of cds and dvds. The idea is that they get scratched and not the dvd. If they get too scratched you just peel it off and slap on another one. Last I saw they were going for 4.95 for a 5pk. That's about a dollar a piece. If they'd come down in price I'd buy alot but when I can buy a blank dvd cheaper I just make a backup and store the original in a safe place.

Putting a label or "skin" on a dvd is a bad idea.

  4. All of the scratch resistant DVD's I've seen have basically been overprinted or had another lacquer layer applied to the TOP - which strikes me as a bit daft since it's scratches on the bottom of the disc that cause the most problems (not true on CD's, where the data is right under a foil so close to the top it's a wonder dust doesn't damage it).

I've bought a five pack of D-skins from Amazon some time ago. I put them on a few DVDs and my DVD players at the time wouldn't read through them properly. I now have them on 5 DVDs which work great in my current equipment. I added them only because I purchased them. I haven't purchased anymore and I don't intend to. They are easily removed and do prevent scratching but the compatibility factor is reduced significantly.
