Adding AVI to nero failure

Hello i have been using nero for a while now and using winavi video converter to convert to dvd format but a friend can just add the avi straight to nero then burn.

I have no idea why i cannopt do his can any body shed any light on it it just says unable to import avi when i try.

He may well have a different version of Nero - one that includes NeroVision Express, by any chance ?

Either way, IMHO you're asking for trouble using WinAVI OR Nero as encoders, but ....... your choice I guess.

would it not also depend on what codec the avi uses to play? (struggling for technical words here )

What you recommend to use for converting avi and mpegs to dvd and burning them to dvd?

And regarding codecs my computer plays then all fine and i have installed all the codecs relating to the problem but still no joy

As far as the one-click-wonders go, I like DivXToDVD. Most of the time though, I do it the manual way using TMPGEnc Plus. http://members.dodo.net.au/~jimmalenko/AVI2DVD.htm outlines the method I use.
