I've tried to burn some of my videos onto 16x bulkpaqs and keep getting the message 'illegal disc' It's also saying 'burn process aborted at 2.4x'

I've also tried them in a Standalone duplicator and nothing is happening.

    Any ideas?

I've tried the DVDs in a standalone dvd recorder and there are no problems there...they record off the tv with no problems, so I really don't understand what's happening - the DVDs just aren't being recognized on my computer or duplicator.

    Any ideas greatly appreciated.

Update the firmware on your burners. It's probably too outdated to recognize the media.

    Thanks for the replies.

I updated the firmware which was already up to date. I had 8x Bulkpaq which were great but seems like these 16x are like you say, pretty crappy.

What would be the best 16x full face printable to go for?

Yes Taiyo Yuden are the best BUT they are expensive and if you are doing a lot of burning or aren't over bothered about how long you want to keep them (ie use the best for archiving stuff you can't do without), then
    you can get cheaper discs.
Go to SVP.co.uk and you can get a sample pack of DVD Rs (- or +) and you can test them with your burner as to the ones that work best and give you good results. I find Datawrite or Ridisc discs a good compromise for quality, speed and cost. However note different discs have different media codes and just getting any old Datawrite (or whatever) disc wouldn't do. svp state the media codes on their site so you can choose which ones that work to buy. I think they also do sample packs of RWs, but you'll have to look.
The above avoids frustration and saves money, alternatively you can buy a great burner that has little issues with differing media (unless you buy total crap) - such as NEC 3540 for about £30 on line, maybe even cheaper now cos newer multi (includ RAM) burners have came out since.
    Hope this helps
Disclaimer - if anyone wants to slag me off for my choice of media go ahead, however I would rather pay 17-22p for a disc to do a backup and then do another later if and when it fails than pay 46p for a Taiyo Uden disc every time. If there is something I want to keep for a lengthy period I usually back up to a +R and a -R disc and sometimes save to an external drive.

Many thanks for the replies - I guess I'll check that svp site out and get some samples. I've got an NEC6500 writer so if anyone could recommend a suitable type for these, otherwise buy from that site.

    Thanks again.

ps is SVP.co.uk pretty much the best place to buy from?

BulkPaq has earned the nickname "BULKCRAP" quite fairly in the past. It's usually either low grade junk or fakes.

You don't have to get Taiyo Yuden media, there are plenty of other good medias available. I know Maxell, TDK, Mitsubishi, and Ricoh all have media over there.

Read www.nomorecoasters.com for a guide on good/bad media.

And then check into any number of sales sites. www.SVP.co.uk is a good one, and www.cd-rmedia.co.uk is another one that has been suggested to me a few times.
