  1. Hi, I was wondering if anyone know what softwares and how to convert a movie from an NTSC DVD with frame rate 29.97 to a divx/xvid with frame rate 23.976?

I've seen many divx movies that has fps 23.976, but was converted from an original ntsc dvd. The question is how this can be done, and the movement in the picture is still smooth? Because if I convert directly from 29.97 to 23.976, then I get very choppy playback.

I *think* the NTSC DVDs of which you speak were probably 23.976fps film with 3:2 pulldown to make them DVD-compliant.

Either that or I think the term is IVTC - Inverse Telecine. I'm in PAL land myself so I don't know too much about it.
    If in doubt, Google it.

VirtualDub can do that for you. Load up your movie and go to "Video" at the top and hit "Frame Rate..." The bottom section of the window that pops up is where you wanna go. Click on the one that says "Reconstruct from fields - adaptive" and that should do it for ya.

Might want to use VirtualDub-MPEG2 so you can load up the VOB or M2V file directly.
