  2. Cut out the first few frames. Or open the file as a DirectShowSource (AVISynth must be installed).

    what codec is required ? Do you have the latest version ? I had a similar issue the last time I missed an Xvid update.

    It isn't an error per say and cutting the frames won't make any difference since it is generated by the decoder and isn't actually part of the stream.

    Updating XviD won't fix the problem, however from recollection for some time now a purely black frame instead of the message has been used.

    As said using directshow will fix it since the problem is VfW which simply isn't designed to handle advanced stuff like bframes.

    Basically if you don't want the lag frame you need to encode with packed bitstream enabled in future or just don't use bframes.
