  1. I'm having trouble with 1080P mkv files lagging when i watch them on my computer. I think my hardware should be able to handle it but now i'm not so sure. I'll post my setup specs at the bottom. I'm using vlc player to play the files. This is an annoying problem so i'd appreciate any help

    Specs:
    Processor E5200
    2gb 800 ram
1gb bfg 9800 gt video card
1 tb wd green 7200 rpm 32mb drive

Check the task manager when the video is playing. Does the VLC process suck up all the cpu?

  3. no. the cpu is only getting to maybe 60% and vlc is using maybe half of that

By "lag" do you mean video stops then starts?

Was the resolution of the monitor/TV and the resolution of the video? VLC has been known to pixelate when your playing a 1920x1080 video on a 1366x768 TV. If you have the right plug-in (i.e FFDshow, haali media splitter, and avisynth) WMP can better handle the task of a similar problem. Your rig seems not to be the problem area. You have very adequate hardware.
