  1. I've just bought a video capture card and installed it.

Basically I can capture the video OK from my VCR onto my PC but there is no audio at all! I have no idea where to plug the audio in into?? It is a female plug, i've tried plugging the speakers into it and I can hear the audio from the VCR but the problem is that it doesn't capture it so later when I play it back there is no audio.

By the looks of it I don't have a seperate sound card?? Are you able to tell me what I plug it into??

I'm a real newbie at this and I know some of you are getting sick of my posts, but i'm trying to learn!

Go to control panel/sounds and audio devices/audio, have a look at the sound recording box, what device is listed?
He's a liar and a murderer, and I say that with all due respect.

  5. It is an AOpen VA1000 it is a basic card, but I only want to copy some old cartoons I have on VHS over to DVD. Here is some more info on the specific prob i'm having.

the cable that came with it
has a black plug on one end which goes into the video card and from that it
has 6 leads coming off it. 3 for the AV from my VCR (red, yellow, white) one
lime green one which says Audio Out, an S-Video one and a black one which
    says IR Receiver In.
The green one needs something to be plugged into it as it is a female plug,
it looks a little like the AV cables but is slightly different.
The software that came with the card is WINDVR.
I didn't get any documents with my PC relating to its motherboard but I
opened up the case yesterday and couldn't find a damn thing that this could
    plug into.
I really do appreciate the help as I really want to get this thing going!

Normally the red and white would be the audio in or out and the yellow the video. Some video capture cards don't have an audio in, but use the sound card input for audio in.

You can use a Stereo RCA Phono to a stereo 1/8" phone plug adapter going into the blue line in connector on your sound card. It's a fairly common adapter, found at most audio stores. The pink is microphone and the green is speaker out.

Or if your card does have audio in, it would be the red and white connectors. And as mentioned, you will probably have to activate that in 'Control panel>Sounds and Audio Devices'.

  7. I have a blue line in connector on the back of my PC it is next to the speaker connection. Is that what I plug the lime green audio out cable into using the plug adaptor??

I'm guessing here, as I am not familiar with that card.

I suspect the audio out from the video card is from the TV tuner, not for the VCR or video in. It probably hooks the tuner audio into the sound card. Green jack on video card to blue jack on sound card. That cable should have been included with the card.

But for VCR or other video and audio input, you would plug your VCR sound out into the blue line in on your sound card with a adapter similar to this:

  9. OK, now i'm getting confused! So I don't need to connect the audio out cable at all??
I just need one of these cables and it will be OK, but what if my VCR only has white and yellow AV jacks??

If your VCR only has one channel of audio out (Mono instead of Stereo), you could use another adapter with the above cable. It's called a RCA (Y) adapter. Like this:

The single end plugs into the VCR and the above cable plugs into the two sockets. The 3.5mm/ 1/8" plug goes into the blue input jack on your sound card. There are other ways to do this also, depending on what you can find available.

There should be a short audio mini-jack male to mini-jack male cable included - connect it to the audio out on the capture card, and to the audio in on the motherboard. If these connections aren't made, the audio will likely not be in sync, and/or no audio in the capture. Look to the manufacturer's website for info, drivers, etc.

Don't know where you are located, but if there is a Radio Shack store or similar with an assortment of adapters, you could probably put a mini plug to mini plug adapter together with adapter parts. Or if you know somebody that can do some soldering, you could get them to make one up. It's a little bit of an odd cable, not likely to find one on a shelf.
