I want to show date and time info on my video. And found out a way to do it in this forum. I captured video from my camcorder using Videowave 4 and used DV_datecode to extract the date info from my DV file (type-1 avi). Then I use the subtitler filter in virtualdub to put the date and time into the avi file. However, there are several problems during this process:
First, the dv files generated by virtualdub is much larger than my original avi file. For example, a 7-minute DV avi file is about 1.5 G. But after this process, the generated avi file (with date and time info shown on the video) is about 13 G.
Second, the DV_datecode seems not very stable for larger files. It can generate .ssa file for a 4.5 G avi file (about 20 min) but for a 12.5 G (60 min) file it will only extract the first 20 min and the date info is a mess on the screen. Any idea?
Thirdly, the virtualdub can't extract audio from type-1 avi file, any way to let it extract this kind of file other than convert from type-1 to type-2?
Thanks for the opioins

I have figured out the first one. Very simple, just use video compression.
The second question, seems the .sub file generated by DV_datecode is fine. However, when I convert it to .ssa using subtitle workshop. The date and time showed on the screen are jumping up and down in virtualdub. Don't know the solution!!! -
Hi dodo,
Check out DV Time Stamp - I've not used it, but it sounds like it might do the trick for you.
There's a description of what it does on this site (can also download a trial from there too):

Thank you Daamon, I tried dv timestamp before. And I also find a way by my self. I use DVsubmaker or DV_datecode to generate the .sub or .ssa files. Then I use Subtitle workshop to format it (adjust the position and fix errors) and save it to .ssa files. Finally, I will use subtitler filter in virtualdub to burn it to .avi file. It works.
The only thing I need to know is how to create subtitle so I don't need to burn the date and time onto the .avi files and have the flexibility to showed it when I wanted. -

...might help you on both counts.
You should be able to create the subtitles in Subtitle Workshop and save them in a format that you can then use with the guide...

Thanks
*edit*
After playing around with subtitle workshop, it seems that if i change the "hide" figure on every single subtitble change, then it removes the "blinking". Is that how you did it? Or is there another quicker method to fix this problem?
Is it possible to remove the "hide" values altogether so that the subtitles do not get hidden - in other words the time and date is show thoughout without having the "blinking" effect?
*edit*
nevermind, problem fixed - wasn't using the software being stated -
