I currently run 2 dvd writers both the NEC 3500 and the Nec 3520. My problem is i can't get dvdinfo pro to check the quality of the burn. It comes up with must have firmware revision R28.
Can anyone shed any light on this please.![]()

Which test ?
The standard CRC and rpm tests should work fine o pretty much any drive, but the jitter tests do only work on certain drives and revisions. I use an NEC2500A running a 2510A firmware and cannot use these particular tests. That said, the CRC and RPM tests have always been enough for me.Read my blog here.

http://tdb.rpc1.org/ lists a selection of possible firmware updates for your drive. Some will be official, most will be altered. Remember, flashing your firmware is changing the low level code that controls your burner. Mostly it goes right, adds new disks to the capabilites, removes restrictions such as regions and speed locks, and makes life better. Sometime it goes wrong, and worst case you throw away the drive and buy a new one. Be aware of the risks, don't do it more than you have to (in most cases one good upgrade willdo you the life of the drive) and enjoy.
