There are no drivers. Ensure that your 1394 port is showing as working in Device Manage, with VX1000E switched off, connect Firewire 1394 cable, switch VX to Player and it will be detected by Windows. If it isn't, the 1394 card is faulty, the cable is faulty or the 1394 port in the VX is faulty.

Of course there's also a possibility of DCR-VX1000E not being recognized in Windows XP. I never had that problem with my VX1000E in XP, but I've read some horror stories from people who were no longer able to have camera recognized once they upgraded to XP (even under Service Pack 2), while other DV cameras were recognized just fine. So I hope that in your case, Elchin, it is some faulty Firewire card or port and not the XP issue.Originally Posted by Richard_G

The VX1000 had a problem with the firewire 1394 port as microsoft was not compatible with it. This was especially evident in windows 2000 and supposeable fixed in xp but im not sure. I believe there is a driver or something out there so you can use the firewire but it is not a slam dunk like newer minidv cameras.

No, I'm aftraid that's not possible. If I were you, the first thing to do, to eliminate one of the possibilities, I would find somewhere a computer with Windows 98SE installed and try and see if your VX1000E is recognized. Perhaps you can even take some old hard drive and temporarily install Win98SE on your computer to see if all the hardware is OK, both on camera and computer. If it is OK, then it's definitely an XP issue. For situations like that I myself keep one computer with dual boot Windows 98SE/Windows XP SP2. That way I can still use some programs and hardware with Win98SE that ended up never working on XP. You can for example just use Win98SE to capture from VX1000E and do everything else, like editing and effects, in XP (just don't forget to have your partition with operating systems for dual boot in FAT32 format, because Win98SE cannot recognize NTFS). After all, you can't output DV back to most VX1000E's anyway because there's no DV-IN on European VX1000EOriginally Posted by Elchin

I don't know where the idea that the VX1000 had a problem came from, I've got a pair of VX700e camcorders (baby brother to the 1000e) and they have both worked first time every time under 98SE, XP SP1 and XP SP2. Plug in, switch on, transfer.

Yes, that should work for the most part. But it's a fact that I read about at some VX1000 forums, that many people had problems of VX1000/VX1000E not being recognized by Windows XP, while most other DV cameras were OK with those systems.Originally Posted by Richard_G
You can go for example to this forum, find some VX1000/VX1000E posts, and see that there's a lot of talk about VX1000 and XP issues:

ANd if the VX port is faulty, can i shoot with VX1000E then use The VX casette and capture with any camcorder(not 3CCD)?
will i get the same VX 3CCD quality? -
Yes, as long as the other camcorder can read VX1000E tape without problems, like tracking issues, etc.. So yes, even if you capture the VX1000E from a 1CCD DV camcorder, you'll still get the same exact quality.Originally Posted by Elchin
