I just wanted to know if anybody could tell me if you can burn an .AVI file or a DviX file to a DVD, and it work on a DVD player, without having to convert them to DVD format.
Thanx in advance.

No you most certainly cannot!!!
Not in a normal dvd-player.
You can however do that for a dvd player that plays divx.
However, converting avi to dvd these days is quick and with dvd-r nearly as cheap as cdrs you can add menus, music etc to conversions which you cannot do with divx as yet on any standalone player. -
aokang:
That .avi file must be converted to a recognizable format to play in most DVD players (which is what you want, ultimately, for it to do).
Try: https://www.videohelp.com/tools?tool=AviDemux, and virtualdub here.
