  1. Hi,

I've got a bunch of mkv files which I want to extract to (in this case) avi/ogg/srt. Normally I would use mkvextractgui to extract it, but this time the video and audio have come out of wrong lenght.
Now I've been searching the net and it seems those mkv are encoded with variable bitrate instead of constant.
I've read about using mkv2vfr. But I don't know how to use it. I double click, window closes and nothing happens. And I don't know anything about using commandlines.
I really want to watch it on my divx player .

    Can anyone help me please?

    "c:\folder\mkv2vfr.exe" "c:\folder\video.mkv" "c:\folder\video.avi" "c:\folder\video.vfr"

replace c:\folder where the video and mk2vfr is located.

You still need to use the time codes to make the avi CFR so that its length matches the audio.

  4. If i can give a recommendation, trying to convert a VFR MKV into the old, obsolete AVI format is certainly not worth the hassle.

Don't forget, MKV was created to overcome AVI's limitations. Trying to convert a MKV, and one that is using MKV's advanced features (like VFR) into an AVI is like trying to place a modern PORSCHE engine into a VW beetle. Yes, you can do it, but the effort is like building a complete new car and the result is worse than any standard, but modern GOLF will be.

IMO, instead of constantly trying to comply with the old standard, AVI, you guys should start using your power as customers, and start to force the software companies to adapt MKV support in their tools.

For MKV to DVD conversion, try DVD Santa 4.0 and its DirectShow reader plugin.
