    Hi there,
I am interested in buying an Ipod before Christmas & I was wondering if anyone knew if Apple was planning a price drop. I see in wake of the Nano release they have cut the price of the mini model but I haven't seen that drop in the 20 gig model (5th generation), which is the one I want. I also thought they might drop the price on the "older" models as I saw they are going to introduce an ipod that will play video, and also maybe drop the price in order to lure holiday shoppers like me! Anybody heard anything?

Apple never discounts. They may up the storage or do stuff like add color screen like they did, but they never discount. You may find the mini cheaper but that is because it has been discontinued. The Nano has replaced it.

Exactly. They would be more likely to increase the features and storage of the current price scheme then to discount the current ones. Apple deals are rare. If you want an iPod just go buy one.

It will ALWAYS be replaced with something better, its just a question of how much time. I doubt we'll see anything new by Christmas.

Whoa, there most certainly are "price drops" in the product. I got my 60GB color one back when it was first released. I got mine for free but it cost $500 at the time to buy. Now the 60GB model is only $400 and there aren't any versions that have more space or more features. Apple very well could be planning another such "price drop" on them to push them for Christmas. However I've heard rumors of a video iPod coming out next but I doubt it would be before the holidays.

Did you get it from one of those 'click here to win a free ipod' things?

I just read an article in the paper, about people complaining about how the nanos scratch too easily. One guy said that he didn't want to spend $30 for a case, because that's a lot of money. Sure, drop $300 for a nano, but another $30 will break your bank.

Oh my no. I got it as part of some promotional items Apple was giving to us after buying loads of Apple hardware.

Wow. I didn't know Apple did that kind of stuff. Out of curiosity, how much did you spend?

ok so Apple introduces ipod video, 30 gigs and longer battery life for $299, which was the price of the 5th gen 20 gig model. Now I see several websites/stores have dropped their price on the 20 gig model (lowest I saw was $249), my guess is they are discontinued like the mini? Looks like Apple dropped the price after all.

Not really. They did as I said they do. The old models are discontinued and the new video iPods have replaced it.
