    i need a good conveter that can convert the most known formats to xvid and a converter that gives the xvid movies good quality. i doesnt matter if its free or shareware.

    I use AutoGK for most files, but you could quite easily just use one of the virtualdub variants (which autoGK uses anyway) in "manual" mode. The quality is reliant on your settings, your source and/or your ability with filters (in some cases).

    mencoder, it supports just about everything as input and can output raw XviD or in an avi container, also mp4 via libavformat (not spec compliant and experimental code).
