    Hi all,
Total newbie here. I have the paid full version of AVS Video Converter, and a DVD with home movies on it in a .VOB file.

I want to rip the DVD's to then edit in Video Editing Software, I'm guessing Sony Vegas or something with tutorials, AVS Video Editor 5.1 only shows them stretched out vertically and I can't fix that. Oh well.

Anyway, I don't know what format to rip these movies to, my options are MP4, MPEG, MOV, etc. I want to be able to play them on a MAC for my brother. I am using a PC. A friend of mine said choose MP4, but that's designed for a mobile device? Also he said use H.264.

Does anyone know this interface? Should I use a different program?

These are old home movies so their quality is already limited.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

    Thank you.

I'm pretty sure vegas 9 can import directly from dvds. If it's a commercial dvd then rip it with dvdfab decrypter first.

Thank you for the quick reply.

These are VHS movies that we took to a company who transfered them to DVD, they are not copyrighted. They are on the DVDs as .VOB files. I would like to rip them to a format that will also play on a MAC. Isn't that what I do?

I don't have Sony Vegas yet, I'm really confused on how to proceed. I got the AVS software because I already had it from their Audio Editor. I'm familiar with audio files and how they work but I'm really confused with all the video options.

I can also use HandBrake too... should I use that? I'm very confused.
